Pre-Procedure Instructions for Cardiovascular Catheterization
- Report to the Out-Patient Registration Desk at least 2 hours prior to procedure schedule or specific time by your physician.
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight unless otherwise ordered by your physician.
- No smoking for 8 hours prior to procedure. Smoking will not be allowed in the room.
- Ask you physician (cardiologist) if you should take your regular medication(s) on the day the procedure is scheduled, i.e., insulin, cardiac or blood pressure pills.
- It is recommended that you do not drive after the procedure. Therefore, make plans with family members or a friend to accompany you home approximately 6 hours after procedure completed.
- Do not forget forms you were instructed to bring to hospital from your doctor's (cardiologist) office.
- Notify your physician (cardiologist) if any change occurs in your health condition, i.e., fever, sore throat, cold, etc.
- Wear comfortable clothing and slippers/shoes to hospital on the day of the procedure.
- Do not bring valuables with you.
- Bring in your medication that you are presently taking in original bottle.
- Bring eyeglasses (if needed), dentures and hearing aid.
- Bring a copy of your living will (if you have one)
